The Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass serves child victims of sexual abuse in a safe, welcoming environment by supporting and improving the investigation process while minimizing the trauma to the child. Using a multidisciplinary team approach; professionals from child protective services, law enforcement, prosecution, victim advocacy agencies and the medical and mental health communities come together at the Center to investigate and intervene in cases of suspected child abuse.
- When a report of sexual abuse is made, several agencies become involved in the investigation and treatment of the child. This can be frightening and confusing to families and children. The Center coordinates the services under one roof and ensures that children are treated with respect and dignity.
- The Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass opened it doors in 1994 and has since seen over almost 10,000 victims. The organization has a foundation of trust built upon a collaborative network of regional organizations and agencies such as law enforcement, child protection and Commonwealth’s and County Attorneys. The Center serves the Bluegrass Area Development District which encompasses the following counties: Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin,Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas, Powell, Scott, and Woodford Count. The Center serves children as young a months old up to age 18 who are a victim of sexual abuse, as well as providing support services for non-offending caregivers. Referrals for services are received from law enforcement, social services and physicians.
- The Center provides an array of services to abuse victims: specialized interviews for children who have made an outcry of abuse, advocates who coordinate services, provide crisis counseling and supportive listening and a child victim therapist who provides in depth therapy for traumatized children. The Center houses a medical clinic where child sexual abuse examinations are performed by caring and specially trained physicians and nurses. The Center also provides court preparation for young victims and support groups for children, parents and siblings.
- The Center is a 501 c 3 and relies upon support from state and federal grant sources, community foundations and individual donors. All of the services are provided at no cost to the families. Your donations are vital in helping us help children.
