· GCAC is a Private Non-Profit agency that is partially funded through The Cabinet for Families and Children (State Agency).  We also apply for grants throughout the year and have been awarded grants from the Federal Govt. and The National Children’s Alliance (Children’s Advocacy Centers).  We are also supported by private donations.

· Decisions are made by a 17-member board of directors comprised of volunteers from our 5 county area: Bath, Menifee, Morgan, Montgomery, and Rowan.  The Executive Director carries out decisions.

· GCAC’s mission is to coordinate services to child sexual abuse victims in the Gateway area in a safe and nurturing environment where trauma is lessened and healing is enhance.

· The idea behind CAC’s was to have a central location where children could obtain the services they needed without having to go “all over town”.  GCAC offers medical services- we have a doctor who comes here one time a week and provides a comprehensive sexual abuse exam, including labs to check for sexually transmitted diseases.  We also contract through Pathways for counseling, the therapist provides a complete mental health screening for the child victim after they receive their medical exam.  GCAC has an interview room set up with a video camera and taping capabilities.  Social workers and Police Officers can interview the child one time, lessening the trauma for that child.  GCAC works directly with the MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) in prosecuting sexual abuse cases.  Those on the MDT team are:  Police Officers, Protection and Permanency Workers, mental health providers, medical providers, prosecutors, school personnel, and victim’s advocates.  GCAC serves 5 counties (listed above).

· GCAC has been in operation since June 7, 2000, each year our number of children served goes up.  This indicates that sexual abuse is still occurring despite efforts to educate the public.  We are involved in Prevent Child Abuse KY and all local organizations geared toward violence prevention: Rowan Co. Domestic Violence Council, PAVE (Partners Against Violent Environments), Sexual Assault Task Force, etc.
